The 4L60E transmission is a 4-speed GM automatic transmission designed for rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive V6 and V8 cars, trucks, and SUVs. The 4L60E transmission is found in the S-10, Silverado, Suburban, Sierra, and Yukon. A 4L60E performance transmission version is found in the Corvette, Camaro, Firebird, and GTO. The 4L60E transmission was one of the earliest mass produced transmissions to incorporate the use of a computer to interpret speed sensor data and determine the best time to complete shifts with a solenoid. These electronic additions created improvements in fuel efficiency and performance and allowed the 4L60E transmission to not have to rely on gear changes that are actuated by hydraulic pressure. Raybestos Powertrain has developed GPZ material and a 3-4 clutch redesigned ZPak (RZP-001) clutch pack to combat the common 3-4 clutch failure point found in 4L60E transmissions.
